Kali Linux inside Windows App Store

1 Min Read

A few months ago, the Offensive Security professionals introduced Kali Linux, as official distribution for Microsoft App Store. It is based on the WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and was developed as the group effort by Offensive Security and Microsoft.

Therefore, you can visit Windows store, search for Kali and install it – simple as that. This can be seen as an easy way of running Kali through Windows OS, where you don’t even need the virtual machine. However, comparing it to Kali Linux that is run natively, it certainly has its drawbacks (like raw socket support, possible incompatibilities or problems with specific pieces of hardware).

Nonetheless, it will be very interesting to see how many penetration testers and other Kali Linux users will welcome this kind of approach.
